🔥 New: 17 free ways to get blog traffic — no budget required

How to Get Your Blog Indexed by Google Fast (Even With No Authority)

A brand-new blog with zero backlinks can still get indexed in days. This is the exact sequence, all with free tools.

Being invisible to Google is the number-one reason new blogs die. The good news: getting indexed is a mechanical process, not a popularity contest. Do these steps in order and Google will find your pages in days — no money, no backlinks, no waiting months.

Step 1: Make sure Google can read your site

Before anything else, check the basics. If these are wrong, nothing else matters:

  • Your site loads over HTTPS — free with every modern host.
  • Your pages have a title and meta description (each page, not just the homepage).
  • No "noindex" tag — check your template for stray noindex directives.
  • Internal links work — click through your own site in a private window.

If you're starting fresh, the zero-cost setup guide builds these in from the start.

Step 2: Set up Google Search Console

Search Console is Google's free control panel for your site. It's the single most important tool a new blogger can use.

  1. Go to Google Search Console and sign in with any Google account (free).
  2. Add your site as a property using the URL-prefix method.
  3. Verify ownership. On most hosts this is a DNS TXT record or an HTML file upload — both free, both take under 5 minutes.
Why it matters: Search Console is where you submit pages, see which keywords you're showing up for, and fix crawling errors. Without it you're flying blind.

Step 3: Submit your sitemap

A sitemap is a simple file that lists every page you want Google to know about. This site has one at sitemap.xml — copy the pattern.

  1. Upload sitemap.xml to the root of your site with your key pages and last-modified dates.
  2. Add a robots.txt that points to it: Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml.
  3. In Search Console, go to Sitemaps, paste your sitemap URL, and submit.

Step 4: Use the URL Inspection trick

This is the fastest free way to push a single page into the index:

  1. In Search Console, open the URL Inspection tool.
  2. Paste your page URL and press Enter — Google will fetch it live.
  3. If it says "URL is not on Google," click Request Indexing.

Do this for every new post the day you publish. It's the closest thing to a "submit button" for Google, and it's 100% free.

Step 5: Give Google reasons to re-crawl

Google discovers new pages faster when other pages link to them. After requesting indexing, build a few free discovery paths:

  • Post the link on your social profiles.
  • Add the new post to your sitemap's lastmod field.
  • Link to it from your homepage and one older post.

Step 6: Track and fix

Within a week, check Search Console's Pages report. If a page shows "Crawled – currently not indexed," don't panic — it usually means Google found it but decided to wait. Improve the page (better title, more content, internal links) and request indexing again in a few days.

Bonus: Bing is free too

Add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools and import your sitemap. Bing also powers ChatGPT search results, so it's a growing source of free traffic that almost nobody bothers to claim.
